So I have a Laserjet Printer that keeps saying its trying to lift tray 2 I am assuming the motor is busted am here just for some insight to see if there is anything else i can do.Why is there a red light on my lg phone
I have switched out the trays just to make sure its not that but still the message occurs. Has anyone else had this issue? Go to Solution. Agree with Stephen above. Usually you will get a You may want to check the backstop of the paper tray to make sure it is not to far forward since if it is, it can impede the movement of the paper going up. Also try with just a few sheets of paper.
You can also with the tray out of the printer look on the right side of the tray and you will see the half moon gear that is used to lift the paper. You can move it by hand to make sure the tray is lifting when you move the gear. But we still don't know what model we really have, the M series are single function, and the title says this is an MFP, which would be an M, and the tray lift would be different depending on which one it really is. I have checked the tray even switched it out for a different one on a working printer just to check that out.
I have not seen or found any paper jams that might prevent the lifting. If it does power off the machine remove the envelope feeder power back on and let us know what happens. What I would do next is remove tray 2 power cycle the machine and see if it gets to a ready status. If it gets to a ready status then try to print a test page from tray 1 and let us know what happens.
Leave tray 2 out while doing this test. If the machine will not feed from tray 1 with tray two removed then the problem is definitely more than just a lift motor. Search instead for.I have a MDN laserjet that when powered on shows tray 2 lifting continuously. Fan spins up and after a few seconds slows but never stops. No other motors turn.
Had a DC controller and power supply for another MDN midwest lightning and used them in this printer.
No help. It will show if tray 2 is removed, I can access the menus but it will not print, even from tray 1. Can't find any paper pieces anywhere in the paper path. I've swapped the fuser from a working printer its gone back to the userand I've tried to do an engine test with and without the formatter installed.
Just today I replaced the tray lift motor. The problem remains. Go to Solution. OK, powered off the printer, removed tray 2, powered on the printer, unit says tray 2 is open. Inserted the tray and it say tray 2 is lifting. Same as before. Sorry for the delay, ben out for the last 2 days.
Thanks for your interest and help. By any chance someone replace the toner recently in the office, do review the toner and make sure it has no shipping materials that are usually orange color. Verify that paper guides on tray are adjusted to media in use and paper settings properly match the media in use. You did not do exactly as Stephen asked. He wanted you to remove tray 2, turn the printer on and when it comes to ready with the message tray 2 open or whatever to not insert tray 2, but place paper on tray 1 manual and see if you can print.
He is try to isolate the issue to just tray 2 or another issue. Reskape, I have replaced the lift motor, the paper size switches work fine. I've tried 4 toners, 3 used working from other printers, and one bran new out of the box.

Fn spins up, no other motors or fans turn. The fuser does not turn. The display shows Tray 2 open. It never goes ready. I press the menu button and try to print a configuration page. The display shows after about 1 minute Processing job from tray 1. After about 5 minutes I give up and cancel the job. First thing I would do is go to the admin menu and then troubleshooting and see if I can view the event log and report any error messages that may be listed.I was helping somebody else with the same type of issue, tray not lifting, and after several days of back and forth they mentioned the machine had a fan error.
So that is why I'm explicitly asking, is there any error message on the display? If not on the display check the event log in the embedded web server. Back in Feb. What I do recall is that the Envelope Feeder on one of the machines was causing Tray 3 to have a problem. As soon as the Envelope Feeder was reinstalled the machine started failing again.
Fortunately since they had multiple machines with extra trays and Envelope Feeders I was able to cross check parts and verify that the tray problem followed the Envelope Feeder from machine to machine. Posting for a Friend If you arent getting error codes - One thing to mention, that will prevent the tray from lifting is the Orange tabs in the side that keep the register from getting damaged.
Also, take off the front piece of plastic and basically anything orange that maybe should have been labeled to remove. Ya, totally not me that made that mistake, totally my friend.
In addition to the wrong cartridge, see if the cartridge is broken. Turns out i had the right one, but it was broken on the side. It appears to get to the last message and stops. When i swapped the broken cartridge into a machine that was all setup, it would get to the 'printing Didn't find what you were looking for?

These are both super easy to swap with all the part-swapping you've been doing, it sounds like you might have another machine there. Furthermore, I've actually seen this problem firsthand, and I've seen a new toner cartridge solve it.

Even if I place the tray back and use a screwdriver to manually lift the plate from the front, the message does not disappear. If I assume where the lift driver is google is no help at this pointI cant seem to find a way to get to it. I think its near the middle on the right hand side where tray 2 goes.

The paper feeder driver drives the PF lifter motor M to move up the lifter plate in which media is stacked.Changing the paper settings and adjust fusing modes on the HP LaserJet M601/602/603
The cassette lift-up operation for the paper fe eder is operated in the same way as that of the product base. The paper feeder driver monitors the PF media stack surface sensors PS, PS when the product is turned on, when the PF cassette is installed or during a print operation to perform the lift-up operation. Cassette lift operation PF 1. Initial lift-up operation The initial lift-up operation is performed if ei ther one of the PF media stack surface sensors PS,PS does not detect the media surface when the power is turned on or when the PF cassette is installed.
The paper feeder dr iver drives the PF lifter motor for a specified period after both of the PF stack surface sensor s detect media and lifts the stack surface tot he pickup position. The paper feeder driver determines a PF lifter motor failure and notifies the DC controller if both of the PF media stack surface sensors do not detect media within a specified period from when a lift-up operation is started.
During print lift-up operation The during print lift-up operation is perfor med when the media surface is lowered for a specified level due to a pickup operation. The paper feeder driv er drives the PF lifter motor for a specified period and lifts the stack surfac e to the pickup position when the PF media stack surface 1 PS detects medi a absence during a print operation.
